Design Eye Q works with Motor City Aftermarket, official licensee of Cat® work truck products.
Our focus for the last two years has been to establish a presence in the automotive design space. We began working with Motor City Aftermarket in 2018 to establish a truly unique and high end line of pickup truck accessories that live up to CAT’s Legendary standards.
Of course this product needed to be a box, but not a simple cube! Our designers sculpted beautiful origami shapes that are visually striking, and work to stiffen the structure. Low sides allow for easy loading while a domed roof allows for maximum storage.
Using Solidworks, all parts were able to be unfolded into 2 d shapes for the laser cutter to automatically cut to exceedingly high levels of precision.
Modular storage iterations were explored to maximize utility.

Photo realistic imagery was created before complex and expensive prototyping took place. This is the fastest and most efficient way to get design approval.
Colors, textures, and accessories were tested here along with digitally test fitting the box into truck beds.
